Strapping
Polypropylene Strapping
Poly strapping, or polypropylene strapping, is safer and easier to use than steel strapping. In addition, it is approximately half the weight of metal strapping. However, poly strapping is the weakest of the three main strapping types. It should only be used for light loads. Poly strapping also elongates more than the other two strapping types. Most common widths are 3/8", 1/2", and 5/8".

Polyester Strapping
Polyester strapping is good for medium and heavy loads and will not tear or split. It lies between poly strapping and steel strapping in many qualities. Polyester strapping is stronger than poly strapping but not as strong as steel strapping. Polyester strapping is more flexible than steel, and does not elongate as much as poly strapping. The features of polyester make it a good choice for many strapping applications.

Steel Strapping
Steel strapping is the strongest type of strapping available. It has the highest tensile, or break, strength of all the strapping types. In addition, steel strapping is the most resistive to elongation, or stretching. This ensures that the load will not slip. The downside to steel strapping is that it is heavier than poly and polyester strapping. Most common widths are 1/2" and 3/4". Most common thicknesses are .020 and 023.
